Education

Academic Portfolio

Nidhi is a Sociology graduate from St. Xaviers College, Mumbai. Her studies of society, culture, and community deeply moved her to pursue her post-graduation diploma from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Dance & Movement Therapy.

Performing Art qualifications

Nidhi's journey through her performing arts education showcases a diverse and comprehensive training experience across various esteemed institutions. Nrityangan Academy of Fine Arts, Mumbai, served as the foundation for Nidhi's performing arts education in Bharatanatyam. Continuing her passion for dance Nidhi pursued her post-graduation in Bharatanatyam at Sree Vallabh Sangeetalaya, a renowned institution recognized by the Maharashtra government.

Nidhi expanded her horizons beyond classical dance through contemporary and physical theatre training under the guidance of Rahul Goswami and Melissa Eveleigh. This training involved intensive workshops and classes focusing on various techniques and styles, including the Jacque Le Coq style of physical theatre, surrealism, and realism.

The incorporation of different styles of training suggests Nidhi's versatility and willingness to explore diverse forms of expression within the performing arts. By studying under the tutelage of experienced mentors across multiple institutions, Nidhi has gained a well-rounded education that equips her with a range of skills and influences to draw upon in her artistic endeavors.

Experential Learning

Nidhi is a versatile dancer and movement practitioner. She has performed extensively in temples and prestigious institutions, such as the Soho House Mumbai and the International Dance Festival at Kerala Kovalam Arts and Craft Centre. Nidhi is an ardent believer in dance education. She believes dance goes beyond practical experience and realizes the importance of theory in arts. Nidhi presented a paper at a Desakala Conference on Healing Trauma with Art, a Pan-Indian Conference in 2021. Nidhi has always been interested in working towards creating a community of creative minds and has been associated with Imagination Artist Hostel Goa for the same.

Nidhi's creativity goes beyond borders and has truly justified the idea that art unites beyond physical spaces. She represented India in the International Dance Council (Korean Ministry of Culture), collaborating with camera and movement to develop screen dance or dance films and a Creative process for lens and movement led by the prestigious Scottish Dance Theatre Company.

Nidhi has also worked in curating a dance festival in Delhi with the Natya Ballet Centre, which enhanced her administrative skills.

Explore. Experience. Express. Enhance

Nidhi's performing arts education lies in its fundamental belief that every individual possesses a unique capacity for expression. Across her various training sessions and courses, this principle forms the cornerstone, offering a platform to channel authenticity and rawness often absent in classical or structured contemporary art forms.

Central to the curriculum is the idea of understanding oneself through the body—a vessel for expression—and cultivating an environment where each body becomes a vehicle for uninhibited expression, spontaneity, and playfulness. It's about fostering a deep connection, or perhaps reconnection, with our bodies, and delving into the uncharted territories of our personal narratives and experiences.

Rather than adhering strictly to established forms or techniques, the emphasis is on exploration—of the self, of untold stories, of unexplored emotions. It's a journey of discovery, where boundaries are pushed, and new avenues of expression are uncovered. Through this approach, Nidhi encourages them to tap into the richness of their own lived experiences, infusing their performances with a depth and authenticity that resonates with audiences on a profound level.

Nidhi's education in the performing arts transcends mere technical proficiency; it's about nurturing a profound connection with the essence of human expression and harnessing the power of the body to convey stories, emotions, and truths that defy conventional constraints.

After training at the Improvised Bodies course, I now know who I am as a dancer. I found a lot of grounding during her course and see myself moving in ways I did not expect. I now know how to express better, which gives me a lot of confidence for the next step.

Aman Saini

I have always been a little conscious of my body when it comes to movements and expressing myself through my body. But the course Improvised Bodies has been one of the most wholesome things I have done for myself in 2023. I have been able to figure out the limits of my body and able to articulate my emotions through my body. I will not stop Improvising from here on!
